please, somebody TRY to disagree. the writing was sharper than ever. the story lines were crisp and suggestive. the acting met the match. this was such a great one. i caught tears welling at three separate times (in a 50 minute show, max!) thoroughly captivating. can ya believe they're ending this thing on us? jesusgoddam! there is no justice!

No, I don't believe it's ending. I keep hoping for one of the channels to pick it up or do a spinoff.

I don't think that will happen. These actors love their show, and seem to like working together, but they ahve some major bargaining power for their next gigs as they come off this series.

I don't want it to end, but I don't want it to desend into something mediocre (which it almost did earlier this year) either. This show changed Television for me. Proved there is such a thing as smart TV. I hate it's going, but I'll own all the DVDs and watch them for years and years...my kids will watch them too.

I remember, during season 1, somebody telling me I had to watch the show but when I heard the premise, and that Rob Lowe was playing a White House staffer, I just laughed. So it wasn't until Season 2 that I actually gave it a chance....

I think the series already jumped the shark. I'm just glad they were able to recapture some of what made it great, so that it can go out on a high note.

I thought it was a pretty good episide, but it didn't hold a candle to "the other funeral episode", Two Cathedrals. Nothing beats Jed Bartlett calling God a feckless thug while standing alone in National Cathedral.

They definitely did what they could to jerk the tars with this one, tho...

I'm pretty much done with the show. I'm glad it's ending before it declines too far. I've been more disappointed than not with the show over the past two years.

<<Nothing beats Jed Bartlett calling God a feckless thug while standing alone in National Cathedral.>>

that was an amazing scene, berating the altar in a latin tirade, stomping his cig on the floor and then fluffing off his God with a 'you've got Hoines' huff. as poignant a scene and as perfect a script as i can imagine...and it, too, was an excellent show in its entirety but that was also in WW's heydey. every show was a winner.

this show was extraordinarily significant because it pulled the show out of a rut...it pounded the viewer with emotional tags throughout and writing that matched anything in the show's history.

        IMHO

"two cathedrals" is my all-time favorite, also ... not only does bartlett go apeshit on god in latin, but he squashes his cigarette out on the altar ... every fiber of my catholic school upbringing simultaneously cried & cheered for him.
